Woongjoo SEO (b. 1981, Korea) creates hyper-realistic paintings of crumpled paper. Our senses are decieved when looking at a flat canvas that appears wrinkled and distorted. Our judgement and perception is henceforth decieved, forcing us to question the hastiness of our judgement. Seo’s works are painted as an illusion, and yet the unique point of his visuals is that there is always an understanding of what both objects, the canvas and the wrinkled paper, actually are.
